All Lamerton Primary pupils were treated to a fascinating talk today about dental hygiene, by local dentist, Alex Hutton. Alex explained the importance of cutting back on sugary snacks and drinks, as the natural bacteria in our mouths love to feed on sugars, causing the acids which lead to tooth decay. She reminded us that water, milk and snacks such as cheese, fruit and crackers are suitable (and delicious!) daily snacks and drinks. Sugary drinks, such as hot chocolate, are fine to have now and again - but weekly, rather than daily.
We were treated to a demonstration of good tooth brushing by Mr Johnson, so the children are now experts and should be able to explain to you at home how to brush teeth thoroughly! You can help your children with this by using a timer in the bathroom to encourage them to brush for two minutes twice a day.
