Magna Carta

We have been celebrating 800 years of the Magna Carta. On Monday we joined in with a live broadcast and today we were visited by Amy and Becky from Bright Solicitors in Plymouth. We took part in a quiz about what life was like 800 years ago, we watched a video all about the Magna Carta and we then had a go at making our own laws. We liked that!
Did you know that:

-Originally the Magna Carta was known as the Charter of Liberties.

-the Magna Carta was originally in Latin.

-In modern English translation, it has 4,922 words.

-In its original version, Magna Carta lasted only three months before King John violated its terms.

-In 1225, a new version was issued by Henry III which became the definitive version.

-The original Magna Carta was written on parchment made from dried sheepskin.

-Only four copies of the original 1215 Magna Carta still survive.

-The only copy in private hands was sold at auction in 2007 for over £10 million.

-The importance of Magna Carta was not accepted until centuries later.
